2017 Paul Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Les Mazures
Also known as Les Masures, a 5ha plot located right next to Chassagne Montrachet’s Les Champs Gain, was only a village level plot. Perhaps wasn’t well known at all as these were pretty basic appellation, but bear in mind the wine was done by Paul Pillot that’s quickly become legendary (well, Coche Dury’s Meursault at village level was a killer too!). The first impression was super, when the wine was chilled nicely, the sharp and focused acidity showed it’s utmost seduction. Problem was that, when the wine warmed up, acidity deteriorated to almost negligible, while the fruits surfaced and become really stunning. Bouquet was a blend of sea breeze acidity as well as ripe and forward fruits. For a village level wine from a specific plot, this is considered very good quality.
