2018 Olivier Guyot Chambolle Musigny Vieilles Vignes
Vieilles Vignes (or VV) means grapes harvested from very old vines, normally with average vine age around 50 years old. Yearly production of only 3,000 bottles. This vineyard does not use herbicides. Wines were aged in French oak barrels for 14 to 18 months. I did not hesitate to decant it for 2 hours based upon VV plus 2018 characteristics, otherwise it’ll be way too harsh to drink it. Style of Chambolle Musigny style is often a very charming and feminine wine, however, this Guyot’s Chambolle Musigny style is more Gevrey Chambertin than Chambolle Musigny, it’s a powerful and delicate wine, thick but with finesse, one can easily detect the silky lurking tannins which is from the old vines plus the obvious character of 2018 vintage. Pretty enjoyable with very lively chunky fruits encapsulating my whole palate, very engaging.
