2018 Philippe Colin Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru
This was probably a better 2018 white burgundy I’ve finally tasted, particularly after the disappointing Ballot Millot Chevalier Montrachet 2018. For comparison sake, I believe this 2018 was better than Philippe Colin’s 2017 vintage (I claimed this based upon my palate memory, not side by side comparison). It showed that Philippe Colin’s winemaking skill is improving. Bouquet was typical Grand Cru nose of oiliness and faint barrel toast. Palate wise was very reflective of the bouquet, a thin film of oil coated my palate, a great lubricant to start! The fruits were very compact and flavorful; thus, one can tell that the complexity is stunning. As it was only aged 2+ years in the bottle, I could not detect the usual Grand Cru evolution, however, I have no doubt given a couple more years of aging, this wine will be of stunning quality.
