2019 Chateau Haut-Bailly II
Pessac-Leognan
This being the second wine of Haut-Bailly, really needs a serious closer look. Knowing 2019 is a great Bordeaux vintage, it’s difficult to produce bad wines. This second wine truly requires some respect, as I think the quality is easily on par, if not better than, some classified growths. Made from 60% merlot and 40% cabernet sauvignon, it actually showed more merlot character than the cabernet sauvignon. Aroma didn’t gel well initially with sour grapes and high acidity, but with proper decanting, the unpleasantness was gone once and forever. Content has very fine tannins, a big wine by Graves standards, and rounded with no rough edges. It really should command some attention, highly recommended!
