2021 Domaine Philippe Colin Chassagne Montrachet Chardonnay
This production came from 18 parcels across the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, with a good amount of grapes coming from vineyards neighboring Puligny Montrachet, namely Houilleres, Charrieres and Beauttes. 45 barrels are being produced. 25% of the wines were aged in new oak. Bouquet of mild vanilla oak, subdued yet obvious. Palatte has a beautiful creamy approach, offering a lush and rich texture, obviously oak comes into play and influenced the content as well. Past vintages I found the wine too big and heavy, but that’s an obvious refinement change by Philippe Colin starting from vintage 2020, making the wine more refined and elegant. I think quality is stunning for a village level production.
