2021 Jean Dauvissat Premier Cru Montmains Chablis
Judging from my previous tastings of past vintages and my scores, audiences know this is probably my favorite plot from Chablis. However, this vintage I did not award it 9.5 stars. My champion and favorite premier cru plot from Jean Dauvissat vintage 2021 went to Fourchaume. Not that Montmains wasn’t good, just that I find Fourchaume has improved vastly. Montmains vines were planted about 70 years ago, thus it can produce very stunning quality wines as the root of the vines dig very deep into the ground. Montmains is always very powerful and fruity, coupled with very modern style, its easy to be mistaken as a new world wine if served blind. This vintage was not different from past vintages, though the fruit intensity was not as powerful as the past vintages. However, it’s still a very enjoyable wine with power coupled with elegance. As Jean Dauvissat owns a decent size plot of land in Montmains, thus the production was slightly more than other labels. A total production of 2933 bottles were available, though we have very limited allocation as these 2933 bottles were meant to be shared amongst the rest of the world.
