2021 Verget Terres de Pierres
Pouilly Fuisse Maconnais
Sit up and pay attention to this wine, I think Guffens-Heynen got it correctly despite being a screw-cap bottling. Pouilly-Fuisse is a white wine appellation made up of the villages of Pouilly and Fuisse. Quality of this Terres de Pierres is stunning, although not without weakness, it’s certain worth giving it a try. Aroma of yellow fruits, orange rind and a subtle touch of herbs. Palate is where it shines, the feminine, softness and warmth really touched my heart, I almost exclaimed it as a “cheap man’s Chevalier Montrachet!”, of course it has not reached that kind of level due to the lack of obvious acidity, however, I’d be frank it’s not easy to produce Chardonnay with such feminine and softness, and these unique characters itself is a strong selling point for this label alone.
