Juyondai Honmaru
十四代 本丸 秘伝玉返し
This sake may not be the top range of Juyondai, but it’s definitely one of the more pleasurable selections from Juyondai. The grading is Tokubetsu Honjozo, with the rice varietal being Gohyakumangoku coming from Yamagata prefecture, the rice polishing ratio is 55%. A whiff and one can tell from the bouquet the sake is heavily made from rice. A sip and I gave it a nod as this is probably a deviation from the ultra-sweetness of most Juyondai sakes, this one is on a very slightly sweet side but it also has some dryness, I put the SMV value around 4 to 5. The polishing ratio is reflected in the content itself, as one can easily feel the elegance and refinement of the sake from its texture. I’d prefer to call this a fruity rice beverage rather than being a sake, the rice character is so prominent and it also turned out to be very fruit driven style.
