It is not just a Chinese wine, but the French selected the plot carefully as the terroir is suitable for Bordeaux style wines. Originally the vineyard was helmed by Cos d’Estournel very famous director Jean Guillaume Prats!
This week, we had the distinct honor of welcoming an extraordinary guest to our wine tasting room, Mr. Maxence Dulou, the esteemed Estate Director and Winemaker of Ao Yun. This remarkable event offered an intimate exploration of the elegance and complexity of Ao Yun wines, a brand celebrated for its pioneering spirit and exquisite expressions of the Shangri La region in China.
37 wine lovers were then guided through a curated selection of Ao Yun vintages, each presenting a unique story of terroir, craftsmanship, and innovation:
2015 Ao Yun: The evening's first highlight, this vintage showcased the brand's debut, symbolizing the realization of an ambitious dream to redefine high-altitude winemaking in China.

2018 Ao Yun: Reflecting a season of meticulous vineyard management and adaptive winemaking, this vintage offered a vibrant testament to the evolving character of Ao Yun, with notes that spoke to both the strength and subtlety of its mountain terroir.

and found it extremely sexy and fresh!

I decanted both wines for almost 4 hours (including dinner it would have been 6 hours), although I had a sip of both wines immediately upon decanting both bottles. Bouquet of Ao Yun has this elevated acidity with a bit of chemical oak funk, and the acidity was reflected in the content as well, however, a simple sip and there are a lot of promising elements inside, and already overtook Malescot by a shoulder as my preference.
A couple hours later, I took another whiff, and I was impressed, very mellow fruit and slightly elevated oak profile. A sip and I was sold, I was really impressed with the content, the fruit is very expressive, soft and elegant, more importantly, drinking right next to Malescot! It stood tall, not giving in a bit in terms of overall performance!
