NV Jacques Selosse Initial Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut
Served double blind and very chilled. Just a sip and I was totally sold that this was the best champagne I had in 2021. My blind guessing was a grower champagne from a great vintage of 88, 95 or 96. I had a similar bottle just 2 weeks ago and I rated itonly, so you can understand how I reacted when I was told this was the Jacques Selosse Initial? I was told the basic blend for this vintage was grapes from 06, 07 and 08. The bottle I had last week was disgorged in 2019, while tonight’s bottle was disgorged in Apr 2016, and that’s the primary difference why the scores were so far apart. I believe the bottle aging for tonight’s bottle was the key to the differences. Thus, if you have got some Selosse, it’s really best to age it for at least 5 years for it to turn more matured, and more flavor. This bottle did exactly as I have said, with the intensity running through the roof, the wine has developed into multiple layers of complex flavor, very deep and lengthy finishing.
