Trio of Silex Pouilly Fume Loire Valley 1994 2001 and 2007
Silex was definitely the gem of Didier Dagueneau (apart from Asterisks that I’ve heard of but never had a chance to taste), thus it was definitely a worthy pleasure to have a chance to taste three vintages of 1994, 2001 and 2007 at one go. They’re made with Sauvignon Blanc, a grape that’s hardy and difficult to tame. However, Didier Dagueneau probably made the most perfect Sauvignon Blanc wines in the world, as it does not even have a tinge of the typical grassy or green style found in most Sauvignon Blanc wines. The 1994 was a thick and blunt juice with relatively low acidity, turned a bit sherry alike after 30 mins in the glass. 2001 was with a lot of forest freshness on the bouquet, very fresh and lively, a lot of pineapple style, with great acidity. I enjoyed the 2007 most as the freshness was simply stunning, loads of pineapple and apricot, with great elegance.
