STUNNING!!! 1978 was a roller coaster vintage, there are great Bordeaux wines as well as mediocre ones. This one that I tasted was easily the best 78 I have ever come across. Had my daughter to smell it, and she immediately choked, and screamed “why so smokey?”, indeed the elegant smoke and cigar box on the nose was mind blowing. Elegantly rich dark fruits, layers upon layers of sweet ripe dark cherries. Super long finishing that I left the restaurant and still taste it. At prime drinking window now.
Neal Martin said this wine is a perfect Graves who like the wines 'autumnal'. Very fine.....there is no denying that it has maintained excellent freshness and a sense of natural balance and effortlessness.
Both made from very good vintages but how would they compare in a blind tasting?
John Gilman says that the he is always a "Fan Of 1983 Huat Brion" and
1985 Haut Brion was "Voluptuous and utterly refined finish!
