KILLING ME BOLDLY

How can anyone not treated like a king for being served a glass of the legendary 82 Cheval Blanc? It simply overwhelmed my palate, totally killing me boldly right at the middle of my heart, even a DRC Richebourg 91 wasn’t able to even apologize for the slack presence! The nose was almost muted apart from the softness. Content wise, I didn’t find any greenness like most Cabernet Franc! The extreme elegance was unparalleled, rich, layered, long, beefy, mind blowing chunky fruits. OMG! (9/2017)

James Suckling - 97 Points

This stuck out in the blind tasting as the odd bottle out due to the high percentage of Cabernet Franc in the blend. It was more like Burgundy on the nose with sliced plums, strawberries and peaches that turn to tropical fruits and chocolate and flowers. It's full-bodied with a very round texture and velvety tannins. This is so approachable and enticing. Soft and voluptuous wine. (11/2010)

John Gilman - 96 Points

This wine has now been very shut down for the last four or five years, and though there is so much raw material here that the wine is still a joy to drink, bottles sampled today only represent twenty-five percent of what this wine will show at its glorious apogee. The bouquet is unmistakably Cheval, with scents of black cherries, bell pepper, dark chocolate, menthol, tobacco, herbs, espresso and vanillin oak wafting from the glass. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep, black fruity, and totally dense at the center, with excellent structure and delineation, great length and grip, and a fair bit of ripe, well-integrated tannin framing the finish. This is very elegant and only medium-full on the palate today (in notable contrast to its thick, luxurious and voluptuous youth), with great depth now buttoned up quite tightly at the core. I would opt for burying this treasure for at least another decade. (1/2020)
