Wine With Bok - 9.75/10 Stars
After drinking Bordeaux for 30 years, this is my first bottle of l’Angelus 1985, I don’t know why I cross shoulder with this vintage so many times, it’s really not often for me to not fill the void. The best l’Angelus I have ever tasted rightfully belonged to 1990, and I will claim this 1985 to be the second best vintage I’ve ever come across. Bouquet is really stunning, obvious buttery note, probably relatively heavy oak employed, along with charred wood and a beautiful red fruit driven nose. Content is big and chunky type of body, almost want to use the word “fat” to describe but it’s not very appropriate, as the wine is very masculine but has no body fats, it’s a well-built wine; wine is of great texture. I must confess it does not have the normal characteristics of l’Angelus being filled with finesse and elegance, however, it does not affect my judgment that this quality is still very stunning. It’s just a whisker away from my all time favorite Cheval Blanc 1985, of which I consistently rated it 10/10, a perfect bottle. (3/2022)

Intense and already complex, with lots of spice, toffee and coffee elements to the blackberry fruit, supple texture, distinctive and full of personality. Distinguished and elegant. *Cellar Selection* (3/1988)
