2008 Michel Niellon Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie - 750ml
Wine By Bok - 9.25/10 stars
Michel
Niellon is a stunning producer for Chevalier Montrachet, I have tasted
many times of it’s Chevalier Montrachet, consistently turned out to be a
supreme wine. Clos de la Maltroie is a small holding of Niellon,
getting hold of it can be difficult, thus we at Fine Wines snapped up
whatever came along. Bouquet was a bit stony and lemony, what really
shined was in its acidity; really stunning bright acidity that
exemplified the Clos de la Maltroie terroir which was normally dull, the
expression of the wine was a combination of acidity and ripe fruit.
Slightly stony on the fruits and lean towards the style of Pomelo or
lemon skins, not very expressive, and in fact slightly stony and dull.
The overall impression is a welcoming balanced style, kudos to the
winemaking charm of Neillon!

Tight and linear, this white features lime blossom, citronella, apple and butterscotch notes. Intense and full of energy, with a lingering aftertaste of spice and mineral. (6/2011)
