Wine by Bok - 9.75/10 Stars

This is an exceptional Grand Cru that highlights the greatness of a vintage too often overlooked. The 2011 Burgundy vintage is frequently underestimated, yet for white Burgundy it is truly outstanding. Much like the misunderstood 2004 vintage, which proved excellent for white Burgundy despite being dismissed by many for Bordeaux and reds, 2011 shares that same quiet brilliance. Those who understand white Burgundy know that 2011 is a year of precision, minerality, and purity.

La Cabotte is an extremely small and rare parcel of just 0.5 acre. It was historically classified as Montrachet but was later declassified by Bouchard to Chevalier Montrachet. Despite this technical classification, the quality in the glass feels closer to Montrachet itself. The plot is entirely owned by Bouchard, giving them complete control over viticulture and production. Importantly, this is a Domaine bottling from Domaine Bouchard rather than a négociant wine, which assures meticulous vineyard management and uncompromising quality.

The bouquet is strikingly mineral, led by distinctive notes of whetstone and flint that immediately signal serious terroir expression. These mineral tones are beautifully complemented by delicate floral aromas, creating a complex and inviting aromatic profile that is both intellectual and seductive.

On the palate, the wine is remarkably refined and multi layered. It shows razor sharp precision with exceptional clarity of flavor. The structure is focused and energetic, driven by high minerality that defines its character and length. Every element feels sculpted and deliberate. The tension, depth, and purity make this a highly recommended Chevalier Montrachet that drinks with the authority and presence of a Montrachet.

A stunning expression of terroir, craftsmanship, and vintage character, and a near perfect bottle that demonstrates why 2011 white Burgundy deserves far greater recognition. (02/2026)

Allen Meadows Burghound - 94 Points

A soft touch of wood still allows the ripe yet very fresh aromas of apple, acacia, anise and citrus blossom to clearly be appreciated. There is noteworthy power, size, weight and muscle to the palate staining and concentrated large-scaled flavors that display an impressive amount of dry extract, all wrapped in a textured and hugely long finish. This is impeccably well-balanced and despite all of the imposing size and weight, there is absolutely no trace of heaviness. This should amply reward medium to even longer-term cellaring.(6/2013)

Stephen Tanzer - 94 Points

Pale, bright yellow. A meaty nuance mostly blew off to reveal complex scents of orange peel, dried apricot, almond, caramel and spicecake. Rich and sweet but with excellent acid cut to the dense flavors of citrus fruits, spices and crushed-stone minerality. Really echoes and builds on the back end, saturating the palate without leaving any impression of heaviness. Give this some time in a decanter or, better yet, lay it down for five or six years. An outstanding showing. (9/2013)
