2017 Pajzos Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos - 500ml
A blend of 75% Furmint and 25% Hárslevelű, this wine originates from a region located in the heart of Europe at the northern limits of viticulture. The climate is characterised by late springs, very warm summers, and cold winters. During autumn, warm daytime temperatures contrast with cold, misty nights — ideal conditions for the development of Botrytis (noble rot). The south- to southwest-facing vineyards benefit from excellent terroir, where brown earth layered with clay bands combines with andesite tuff soils. These soils possess strong heat-retention properties, allowing grapes to ripen fully and develop into exceptional aszú berries. The nearby Zsadány stream along the southern boundary contributes essential humidity, creating a unique microclimate that further encourages Botrytis formation.
The wine displays a pale to medium amber colour. The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing dried apricot, honey, and meadow flowers. Full-bodied and richly textured, this Tokaji shows outstanding balance between sweetness and acidity. Complex, layered flavours unfold across the palate, including butterscotch, dried apple, candied orange peel, clove, marzipan, lemon zest, cardamom, and freshly baked bread. The finish is long, elegant, and deeply enticing.
