Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 stars
Amarone are made from Passito grapes which are half-raisined, thus the character is of very intense concentrated flavors, mainly composed of dried cherries, dried grapes. candied strawberry, and even some spice. The alcoholic level for Amarone is rather high as it is made from dried grapes, usually 15%. Amarone della Valpolicella is normally aged in oak barrels for 2 years (as opposed to 4 years for Riserva). Amarone is slightly pricey as there are numerous factors, especially technical reasons, for the cost to be high. 2018 is a very decent vintage for Amarone, and you can trust Monte Zovo to produce quality Amarone. I have tasted quite a few vintages of their Amarone, quality is very consistent, as if the vintage does not affect their winemaking process at all. For the sweetness and fruit intensity, you can be assured this wine can be aged for decades without any difficulties. (2/2024)

Doctor Wine Guida essenziale ai Vini d’Italia 2022 - 95 points

Bibenda 2022 - 5/5 Grappoli

An Amarone that is born in the vineyards of the Tregnago Estate, in the upper Val d'Illasi, Mezzane di Sopra and the Tregnago hills and from a fine blend of traditional Veronese grapes, Corvina between 55% and 65% Corvinone between 25% and 35% Rondinella between 5% and 15%. The marly calcareous soil gives the wine character and personality.

The harvest usually begins in the second week of September. The bunches are carefully selected by expert hands and placed in the special boxes, waiting for the Appassimento, in the Tregnago drying room. During the Appassimento the grapes stay in the loft for a few months in the winter, during which the grapes acquire aromas, colours and above all a conspicuous concentration of sugars. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after the grapes have been destemmed and crushed. The alcoholic fermentation lasts about 20 days at a controlled temperature of 20-24 °C. Ageing takes place in barriques and tonneaux and lasts about 24 months. After a careful evaluation, the blend is then made in steel, where the wine will remain for about 6 months. In the last phase, bottle aging takes place for at least 12 months.

Intense ruby red in colour, it releases aromas of ripe fruit, cherries in alcohol and intense spicy notes on the nose. On the palate it is warm and powerful, with refined and round tannins. The most suitable wine to combine with braised meats, stewed meat and game, will be perfect in combination with a platter of aged cheeses.
