2019 Olivier Guyot Marsannay "Les Longeroies" - 750ml

A red wine from Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, currently, the Marsannay appellation is pending a decision to label its climats as Premier Cru. The winemaker produces roughly 6,000 bottles a year. The wine is aged 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 20% new oak, 30% single-wine barrels and 50% 3-year-old barrels. Bouquet of obvious powerful black cherry blended with raspberry aromas, very typical of Olivier Guyot style prior to decanting, but knowing 2019 was a great vintage, I chose to decant it for 2 hours, and expectedly, the initial powerful aromas toned down tremendously to become very soft and ripe. Content wise, it was a truly powerful and full-bodied burgundy, if you’re looking for finesse and elegance, go look for some Vosne-Romanee, as the terroir of Cote de Nuits could not replicate that kind of character. However, it was not so muscular type of power, more like a muscular gentleman with a lot of politeness. The content has assured me that it fully deserves the Premier Cru status in time to come.
