‘Fourchaume’ is one of the most reputed Premier Crus of Chablis. The slope is a progression of the same one on which the Grand Crus are based. It benefits from the same exposure (to the South-West), which allows it to gain good levels of maturity, even in harder years. This wine shows a real roundness, a perfect counter-balance the typical Chablis minerality.
Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars
Being a flagship plot of Jean Dauvissat, Fourchaume is one of the most famous premier cru of Chablis. Yearly production is only 3000 bottles, with bad weather years easily slashed by half, so you can imagine the limited supply and rarity of this label. I always pay attention to both Montmains and Fourchaume, as quality is usually assured despite vintage variations. I like Montmains for it’s complexity and Fourchaume for it’s feminine and elegance. 2020 production is slightly different from 2019, bouquet was a touch of light aromatic fruits. Unlike 2019, 2020 is missing some mineral notes, and not elegant nor soft enough. However, it makes up by having a big fruity punch on the palate, as the fruits firmly settles on the tongue with persistence and long finishing. (4/2023)
Wine Enthusiast - 94 points (Editor's Choice)
Gentle aromas of lemon verbena, fresh pears and melon intertwine with baby's breath, acacia, salty ocean breeze and stone. An abundance of white peach, lemongrass, chervil, fresh hay, broken seashell and flaky sea salt coats the palate. A delicious expression with intense minerality and dry extract that lingers on the long finish. (12/2023)
