Andre Clouet 1911 Grand Cru

André Clouet — “Un Jour de 1911…”

The prestigious cuvée “Un Jour de 1911…” from Champagne André Clouet draws its inspiration from the evocative year of 1911 — not as a literal vintage origin, but as a tribute to the elegance, optimism, and artistic brilliance of France’s Belle Époque, often remembered as the country’s Golden Age.

The story behind the wine begins with a remarkable discovery at the estate itself. Hidden deep within a small cellar, several forgotten bottles were uncovered by chance, resting quietly inside a wooden crate, wrapped in straw and protected by golden foil. Unknown to anyone at the domaine, these bottles had been aging undisturbed for more than eighty years. When the winemaking team finally opened and tasted the wines, the experience proved profoundly moving.

Beyond their extraordinary condition and vitality, the bottles carried with them a sense of nostalgia — echoes of families long gone and memories of a vibrant early twentieth century when Champagne symbolised celebration, prosperity, and joy.

A Tribute to Memory and Heritage

Inspired by this discovery, André Clouet created Un Jour de 1911… as a homage to those recovered bottles and to an era defined by craftsmanship and cultural flourishing. The cuvée seeks to recreate not merely a flavour profile, but an emotional experience — one that connects past and present through patience, tradition, and time. Just like the original hidden bottles, longevity lies at the heart of the wine’s philosophy.

Designed for extended ageing over decades, each bottle is carefully protected as a tribute to its inspiration. Wrapped in golden foil and straw, and presented in a sturdy wooden crate, every element of the packaging is applied by hand with meticulous attention to detail. The label itself reflects Belle Époque aesthetics, transporting the drinker back to an age of artistic freedom, optimism, and refinement when French culture and creativity flourished.

Grand Cru Origins — Bouzy
Sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards in Bouzy, the cuvée expresses the powerful yet refined character of Pinot Noir grown on Champagne’s prized south-facing slopes. Bouzy’s chalk-rich soils lend structure, depth, and remarkable ageing capacity — qualities that mirror the historical inspiration behind the wine.

Disgorgement — June 2023
This release was disgorged in June 2023, following extended maturation on lees that enhances both aromatic complexity and textural refinement. The long ageing period contributes layers of autolytic richness, precision mousse, and remarkable harmony between maturity and freshness — hallmarks of the cuvée’s exceptional ageing philosophy.

Rare by Design

Despite its prestige and craftsmanship, Un Jour de 1911… remains exceptionally rare. Production is strictly limited to 1,911 bottles per release, reinforcing its status as one of the most exclusive grower Champagnes available worldwide. Only a small allocation reaches international markets each year, making every bottle a collector’s piece as much as a wine.

The result is a Champagne that transcends simple luxury — a liquid remembrance of history, patience, and enduring artistry.

Wine With Bok - 9.75/10 Stars
KING OF GROWER CHAMPAGNE After tasting all 16 grower champagnes with a school of sommeliers, everyone voted this champagne as their favorite. I opened another bottle over the weekend to slowly appreciate it, and realized it deserved its status. Started off a mixed character on the nose; aged tobacco leaves but also young with sour green apple. Palate was similar; initially the green apple dominated. However I discovered that the champagne slowly evolved into ripe apple and honey, very bold and rich.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate - 96 Points
The NV Un jour de 1911... is another 100% Bouzy Pinot Noir with an ancient label design. The shining golden-colored cuvée combines ripeness, complexity and finesse with intensity and elegance on both the nose and palate. It's a powerful and rich yet very fine and balanced Champagne with great freshness and complex length. It is juicy and intense but also highly delicate, and its mineral tension and persistent finish make it a first-class wine for elaborate dishes. A great Champagne, with a label that doesn't give any more detailed information regarding vintages or disgorgement date, but we know it's always a 50/50 blend of three vintages (including one great millésime at least 10 years old) and reserve wines from a solera system.
