Kleine Zalze, an award-winning winery in the heart of the Cape Winelands, just two miles from Stellenbosch, has a rich history dating back to 1695. Though winemaking began on a small scale, it was in 1996, when Kobus Basson and his family acquired the estate, that the modern vision of Kleine Zalze was realized. Our winemaking philosophy is rooted in the belief that great wines start in the vineyard. By carefully selecting grape varieties and clones best suited to the diverse soils and slopes, and managing the farm’s natural resources, we ensure the highest quality in every bottle. In 2020, Kleine Zalze reached new heights by being named Top Performing Winery of the Year by Platter’s South African Wine Guide, the country’s most respected wine authority. More recently, at the prestigious Veritas Awards 2022, we earned four Double Golds and the Best Achiever award, further cementing our place among South Africa's finest wineries.
