Michel Girard

Michel Girard is a celebrated winemaker from the Loire Valley, renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship in Sancerre. A third-generation vigneron, Michel combines traditional methods with a keen understanding of modern winemaking to produce wines that exemplify the terroir of the region. His vineyards span the three major soil types of Sancerre—Silex (flint), Terres Blanches (clay-limestone), and Caillottes (pebbly limestone)—enabling him to create wines with remarkable depth, balance, and complexity. Michel is especially revered for his Silex-driven wines, which showcase vibrant minerality, precision, and elegance. Today, Michel works closely with his son Philippe Girard, who brings fresh energy and innovation to the family’s winemaking tradition. Together, they uphold a philosophy of minimal intervention, respecting the environment and allowing the vineyard’s natural expression to shine through in every bottle.
