Prinz von Hessen

Situated on the southeastern fringes of Johannisberg within the esteemed German wine region of Rheingau, the winery was procured in 1957 by the Landgrave of Hesse for the Hessische Hausstiftung (Hessian House Foundation), boasting a seven-hectare vineyard area at the outset. Adorning its trademark is the iconic coat of arms of the Princes and Landgraves of Hesse, showcasing the distinctive red and white striped lion of Heinrich I. Presently overseen by Donatus Landgrave of Hesse, who serves as the managing director of the Hessische Hausstiftung, alongside Dr. Clemens Kiefer as its director, the winery has undergone significant expansion. Its vineyards now span 40 hectares, encompassing premier sites like Klaus and Vogelsang in Johannisberg, as well as Dachsberg, Gutenberg, Hasensprung, and Jesuitengarten in Winkel, Kläuserweg in Geisenheim, and Sandgrub in Kiedrich. In the VDP classification of 1999, nearly 70% of the vineyard holdings earned the prestigious designation of Erstes Gewächs. The vineyards predominantly feature Riesling, with additional plantings of Pinot Noir and Merlot constituting approximately 90% of the total acreage.
