I have previously reported a similar sake, Juyondai Banshi Yamadanishiki Junmai Diaginyou, Juyondai Banshu Yamadanishiki Junmai Daiginjou – Fine Wines Singapore, but don’t get confused, as the one I have reported was a Junmai Daiginjou, while the one I drank tonight was a Junmai Ginjou, they’re of different rice polishing ratio, the Junmai Ginjou has a 50% rice polishing ratio. No doubt the Junmai Ginjou has the pedigree of the Junmai Daiginjou and tasted somewhat similar, with feminine and softness character as well, however, do not expect the gap to be close, they’re actually vastly apart in grade. To prove my point, I opened a Dassai 23 to drink side by side with the Junmai Ginjou, my observation was spot on. Dassai 23 has the finesse that totally lacked with the Junmai Ginjou. However, not all was lost, Junmai Ginjou has a bigger style and penetrating taste that was lagging with Dassai 23. (5/2021)
