Clouet’s base rosé epitomises elegance and focus, while flamboyantly celebrating the generous raspberries, red cherries and pomegranates of Bouzy. The depth and presence of the village are sensitively toned by the lively, bright acidity and fresh precision of the house. Structure is fine and confident, driven by the chalk minerality of the village, working seamlessly in concert with finely executed tannin texture. It finishes with great length, vibrancy and elegance, with lingering poise and detail of exquisite red berry fruits. An engaging and enticingly priced rosé of primary integrity and pretty medium salmon crimson hue.
James Suckling - 93 Points
A frank, generous and juicy but properly dry rosé champagne that has plenty of pinot noir red-berry character. Enough substance to easily handle the dining table. Long and bright, berry and citrus finish. 100% pinot noir, of which 8% was red wine.
Winemaker Notes:
For over two centuries, the Clouet family has been crafting exquisite champagne by vinifying grapes from vineyards gifted to them by Napoleon as a token of appreciation for their long-standing service as the king's scribes. Maison Clouet's vineyards, sprawling over 9 hectares in Bouzy, boast varied plots, all Grand Cru classified and cultivated using organic techniques. The winery's style, shaped by tradition and the 'savoir faire' amassed over years, resonates in each of their marvelous champagnes. The André Clouet Rosé Grand Cru, a blush champagne made from Pinot Noir grown in the winery's clayey-calcareous vineyards, is produced conventionally with fermentation in steel tanks. A splash of Coteaux Champenoise wine, specifically Bouzy red wine, is added to achieve the perfect hue. The champagne is aged for a minimum of 36 months in the bottle with its fine lees before being manually disgorged.
