1955 Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion
BARLEY
For some unknown reasons, aged Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion normally had this very strong boiled barley nose, which I frequently encounter; 53, 55, 64, 66, 67, 69 (but not the legendary 47). I suspect it was the maturity of the Cabernet Franc that evolved into such nose.
Pardon for the charred label, I do enjoy aged Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion a lot, as the palate was normally extremely rich and creamy, very smooth and along with low acidity and concentrated fruits. One of the best right bank wines in my book.

A definitive Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion style, like the 64 & 67 (refer to my previous notes). Both the nose and the palette are really unique; loads of thick tea leaves on the nose (more like Pu Er tea, very concentrated. Palette is really where it shines, elegant, pleasant and in fact creamy in a unique way that words can't describe. I must say wines of 59 years old and still alive and kicking, full of tertiary flavor is not easy to come by, and only first growth can maintain such high standards.
