1964 Chateau Latour Pauillac
Dense, red purple, very creamy concentration. The aromas here are magnificently perfumed and lifted, but with a very dense and tightly creamed layer of dark berry fruits tinged with a sweet exoticism. What a palate too, broad and svelte, creamy seamlessness, but underneath this upper layer a ripe, dense, velvety but mouth coating layer of prodigious tannins. The fruit copes admirably with them, and the acidity plays its part, providing a gentle balance rather than a vigorous tingle. Wine of the night. Again, served from two btls of the same source, one is dull while the other is more exciting. I use the latter's description: rich, lively, cedar, extremely balanced & warm. Later stage, it developed into a bit of Chinese medicine for the bone, intense & tannic. This wine has good staying power, implies it can last for a few decades without problem.
