1970 Chateau Montrose Saint Estephe
AGED WINES
There's no good labels, but only a good bottle, this is how the old folks will tell you when you open a bottle of aged wine, since the bottle grow up by itself like a human being. You can open 12 bottles from an OWC and all of them tasted differently!
I was lucky to drink this bottle, in an extremely pristine condition. Very nice tobacco leaves floating on the glass. Content was pleasant, rich, drying up (not a good sign), leading to weakening rather quickly. Always a unique experience!

Served in a double blind format with the theme of any 70s. Very faint tobacco leaves on the nose. Palette is pleasant, relatively rich in flavor, very dry, and started to show its weakness after an hour in the glass. All I guessed was a left bank Bordeaux but I thought it was a 75. Never expected it to be a 70. Very fun and enjoyable.

I must say 1970 Bordeaux keeps giving me surprises, same for this Montrose. Initial nose was so faint I only smelled very faint home under furnishing / varnishing nose. I decanted it, and in 1 hrs time it blossomed into dark fruits and tea leaves. At this stage the palette was with elevated acidity, boring, I know it's too young. At 2 hrs mark, palette changes into ultra soft fruits, big surprise! Keep morphing. My 3rd hour, the nose & palette finally blossom into full blown grown up stage! 44 yr old wine?!
