1970 Ducru Beaucaillou Saint Julien
AVERAGE JOE
From a second growth chateau, I would have expected a bit more from it, despite the fact that it was produced 47 years ago. Some said 1970 wasn't a great vintage, well, I had many memorable 70 wines, e.g. Trotanoy, Latour, Palmer... etc, this Ducru Beaucaillou paled in comparison.
Nose of elegant smoke, wet tobacco leaves. Palate was ok with sweet notes, a bit light, although still possessed some elegance, but really nothing to shout at. Just another average joe tonight.

Supremely elegant nose displays red fruit aromas with touches of spice.
On the palate, a smooth, creamy attack yields powerful, velvet tannins. The roundness is remarkable, giving the wine very attractive length. The finish reveals vanilla and chocolate aromas, with pleasant floral notes
