1972 Maison Leroy Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques
SERIOUSLY OFF VINTAGE, BUT ...
My first encounter of the 1972 red burgundy vintage, and I know it’s totally off vintage, being a highly acidic vintage. Any wine can last that long really have to be respected, no surprise it came from Leroy.
Bouquet of dryness, oak and slightly smoky. Content was quite pleasant although the bad side of the vintage also revealed: very high acidity, don’t forget acidity doesn’t go away over time. Loads of sweet cherries. A tad too simple, but good enough for an off vintage.
