1973 Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion
POOR VINTAGE CHARM
If there was one wine that I trusted that's coming from a poor vintage, that's going to be Haut Brion, Latour or Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion. Which was the best of the worst vintage? I'd say they're almost equally on par, no winner, and no loser either. This white horse stunned me with its charm, I felt it was probably a 70s or 80s. Really mellow and elegant and charming, not a single wine from 1973 that I can recall that possessed such charming character. Absolutely unbelievable, try it to believe.

I have to rate this 5 stars due to the effort put in by Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion. 73 is a poor vintage in Bordeaux, not many wines can still be drank after 41 yrs, and mostly diluted or way over the top. But this one impressed me! On the nose the green raw note already told me it's a poor vintage, I almost wrote it off already. And my eyes lit up when I took a sip; pleasant, elegant, easy, feminine and well matured, absolutely nothing negative to write about apart from the green nose. I now add Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion as big fav.
