1978 Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion
THIRD BOTTLE
I was so lucky to drink this Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion 1978 the third time, this time with my Swiss supplier, and without even the slightest doubt, deserved a full five stars third time in a row!
What really striked me was the excellent fruit quality with a balanced tannins supporting the wine. I ranked Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion ahead of Mouton Rothschild, both are fruit based, but quality of fruits at Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion was way ahead of Mouton. Don’t pay for overpriced Mouton!

GREATEST FRENCH ‘78 5/7
I organized the best of the best French wines ‘78 and confined it to Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone only. Trying to find what region produced the best ‘78. All served double blind.
This was my Wine of the Day! Although consensus chose Leroy Caillerets as the top choice, it didn’t deter me from loving my Bordeaux.
Extremely floral bouquet, the nose was even better than burgundies! The thick and lush fruits had me head over heals, totally awesome white horse!

OLD CHARM
It's really difficult not to fall in love with Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion, this was the wine of the night by a distance, the elegance of such old charm simply cannot be reproduced by young vintages, simply hedonistic! The almost perfumed fragrance already melted all our hearts, although it developed some barnyard at much later stage. It was so easy to drink, I'd used the word CHARMING to describe the content. A very slight tinch of green notes but it doesn't bother us at all, a perfect way to end the night.
