1978 Mongeard Mugneret Clos De Vougeot Grand Cru
GREATEST FRENCH ‘78 1/7
I organized the best of the best French wines ‘78 and confined it to Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone only. Trying to find what region produced the best ‘78. All served double blind.
Nose was green, smoke, tart, tobacco and sweet cherries. I liked the multiple layers and sweet cherries, relatively rounded and matured. The evolution was a bit of a downhill as I found that the initial 15 min was thick and lush but 30 min mark it turned thinner. Thought it was a Premier Cru. I was wrong.
