1979 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon
It has intensity tempered by elegance and finesse. A lush, fruity core of ripe blackberry, juicy red and black currant and sweet crème de cassis fleshes out steadily on the palate, interwoven with black currant leaf, mocha and a savory hint of black pepper. There’s a refreshing brightness to the fruit from the beginning all the way through to the lingering, velvety finish.
Another blind tasting. Nose was a giveaway of Cabernet Savignon due to slight green capsicum nose, and minty as well. But these characters are somehow masked by the vanilla (I am sure it's American oak). A bit lean, a bit light and rounded on the palette, which threw me off thinking there was merlot content, which leads me to guess this as Palmer 79 (my next post). It's really not easy to participate in blind tastings, a lot of skills and knowledge is required.
