1981 IS A Saint Julien STAR
Those born in 81 stick to buying Bordeaux Saint Juliens. It's never dull. In fact it's way under rated and cheap as well. I rated this one highly as it is very similar in character comparing to 82; loads of extremely elegant fruits and pine woods on the nose. The mouth full is just as enjoyable with very rich and rewarding fruits, it's just very slightly diluted compared to 82, otherwise it can easily replace the 82 at a fraction of the price.

I found a gem here, a very under rated 1981 vintage whereby Saint Julien appellation shines. Ducru excels in a few vintages, 59, 61, 82, 03, 05. Now I add 81 as a top vintage. For some reasons, I find the character very similar to the 1982 vintage. Rich, lush fruit character, only on a good Ducru Beaucaillou vintage that u get it like a pretty girl doing a lap dance for you, at a fraction of the 82 price! Same finding for Gruaud Larose 81 too, guess it's really the excellent under rated Saint Julien vintage!
