1981 Vieux Chateau Certan Pomerol
HONE BLIND TASTING SKILLS ..
Was served double blind with this wine. Upon a sniff, I declared Pomerol, based upon the very smokey character that's unique to Merlot grapes. However, I then detected bell pepper, thinking it was Merlot dominated with some Cab Sav in it, thus derived it as left bank high merlot wine like Palmer or Lalande. Later I found out VCC has high Cab Franc content (30%), Cab Sav (10%) and Merlot (60%), the Cab Franc has thrown me off, thus the wrong answer. Lesson learned.
