1982 Chateau de Marbuzet Saint Estephe Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnel
This estate is sandwiched between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose, the vineyard is planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Its rather rare for left bank wines to have such a high proportion of Merlot (especially for wines from Saint-Estephe), and the wine was aged in new oak barrels. Bottle condition was pristine and perfect, and we had a great time drinking the bottle. Bouquet of primarily red fruits and light smoke, perhaps from remnants of cigar. Content was really smooth and easy to drink, with no rough edges (thanks to the high proportion of Merlot), and fully resolved tannins. Highly recommended if you can get hold of a bottle to try.
