GREAT VINTAGE 玛歌的好年份
It’s probably a best kept secret but strangely 1983 was a superb Margaux vintage, but it only applied to top chateaus and not across the board. Fragrant and concentrated nose. Content was feminine; blueberry, silky, sexy and in fact a friend used the word slutty to describe the wine, of which I didn’t oppose.
1983年是个非常好的玛歌年份，但是只限于顶级玛歌酒庄，并不是每个玛歌酒庄都有这份荣誉。很浓缩，花香和成熟的果味。酒体非常女性化，丝一般的柔顺，有一层浓厚的蓝莓味，性感，接近完美。我的朋友用了一句很不体贴的话形容这款酒：太妩媚了，接近歌妓或是妓女的勾引，我有点赞成他的形容词，玛歌本来就女性化，加了点妩媚是正常的，这就是顶尖年份的玛歌！

One of the greatest Ch Margaux produced when Paul Pontellier took over the CEO post of the chateau? Arguably yes, although I still prefer the older vintages like 49 and 61. This one had jumbo fruity nose covering all other secondary nose. On the palette again chunky dark fruits that's almost chewable. It was really seductive during the first 1.5 hour of decanting, then slowly the nose disappeared, dark chocolate and coffee took over and slight sourness took over. I knew it's on the downhill from here.

IN MEMORY...
In memory of Paul Pontellier who passed away earlier this year, 1983 was his first vintage in Ch Margaux, I don't think he was the technical director then, but sticking around for 33 years in the chateau deserved our respect.
I find that Ch Margaux 83, despite a great vintage, was on the downhill. It had everything you asked for from Ch Margaux, but the content was fading. I started off giving it a 95, but subsequently downgraded it to 92 coz along the way, I keep getting faded content.
