1983 Pichon Lalande Pauillac

Reporting on a recent vertical tasting of 7 vintages from Pichon Lalande. Following the legendary vintage that is 1982, not a lot of people realize that 1983 was also a superb vintage for the chateau. Greatly shows the feminine characteristics they are well known for. Nose was showing a lot of secondary/tertiary notes such as tobacco and earth. The palate had light red fruits and was extremely silky and balanced! With tannins still around, this can still age more but drinking superbly well now!

Lalande has a character that's very in Pauillac like. Today I got heavy loads of coffee on the nose (which is normally a Saint Julien nose), slightly smokey, got some grape stems and herbaceous notes. The sweetness on the palette gave away as a merlot based wine. My guess tends towards a Palmer or Lalande but the strong coffee nose fooled me and changed my answer to Saint Julien. Lesson learned, must analyze both nose and palette to get a good derived answer.
