1985 Chateau La Clusiere St Emilion Grand Cru
Coming from a magnum bottle, the condition was pristine. This was a relatively low profile chateau, and only my second bottle (I had a 1995 and it surprised me a lot on the upside, report here: La Clusiere St Emilion 1995 Fine Wines Singapore), but trusting the 1985 vintage, I took a plunge and bought up all the stocks my supplier had. I can perhaps summarize it with one sentence for this wine: semi forever young! I didn’t know if magnum bottle is in play, or the vintage in play, I suspected both. The wine tasted like it was being produced just a couple of years ago, with very shy fruity character mingled with oak, it certainly implied the wine was way younger than the stated age. This wine should age further, and I suspect it may show it’s true color only in a decades’ time.
