1989 Chateau Gloria Saint Julien Cru Bourgeois
Coming from a very hot vintage, in fact one of the hottest summer on record in ages. It definitely benefits the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, while Merlot could not survive well (if you pick the grapes late). Bouquet is surprisingly clean, with a blend of bell peppers, greenness, blackcurrant, and a hint of espresso coffee beans. I do enjoy the palate, great finesse came into observation upon my first sip. Slightly creamy with a touch of Latte, obvious oak play, good length and great finish. On a little vertical note, I think I’ll rank 1990 highest, next 1982, followed by 1989 and then 1987 (these are the 4 vintages of Ch Gloria I have tasted in the past). I think Ch Gloria deserves to be in the classified growth category, and their 80s wines are definitely on fire!
