1990 Frederic Esmonin Mazy Chambertin Grand Cru
FAILURE RATES TOO HIGH
Another madeirised bottle with the typical funky nose and sherry like or port like sweetness.
In this 90 or older Gevrey Chambertin blind tasting dinner, a total of 9 bottles were served, 3 bottles were madeirised, a failure rate of 33%! I've been used to Bordeaux, it'll be difficult to find a bad bottle at this age, not to mention 33% failure rate!
I guess I don't like to be looked upon like a fool, so aged red burgundy is really a hit and miss and I'll consciously avoid it.
