1990 Smith Haut Lafitte Pessac Leognan
3 DECADES OF SMITH HAUT LAFITTE Today I hosted a dinner with chateau owners Daniel and Florence Cathiard of Smith Haut Lafitte with some of our customers. Cathiards bought SHL in 1990, and attained pinnacle winemaking skills in 25 years time, which was short for great vineyards. The 3 decades of red served are 1990, 2000 and 2010, all direct from chateau. 1990 was typical fruity character of 90 on the front palette, but the weakness quickly revealed itself beyond front palette; green, stemmy, vegetal.
