1993 Chateau Labegorce Margaux Cru Bourgeois
Labegorce is a long-established property in the Margaux commune, as far dated back as the 14th century. Labegorce wine composition is roughly 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. 1993 vintage is a challenging vintage for Bordeaux in general, a rainy growing season. Not a vintage to keep, thus when I opened this Labegorce, I didn’t have much faith with the content. Rightfully so, at 29 years old, it tasted like a 40-year-old bottle, perhaps even older. The content was not only forward and past it’s prime, it’s somehow diluted with watershed content. Not all was lost, content was still drinkable and I could still pick out some Margaux appellation characters from the wine, albeit too advanced for its age.
