ELEGANT SMOKE
Normally we don't like smokers, and cigarettes and cigar smoke are intolerable to many including myself, but I can smell this Mouton 95 smoke all day and all night without being bothered by it. The smoke was healthy, elegant, and with great finesse, which was similar to the wine body itself. Superb complexity and great finesse with the palate, it may not be immediately noticeable to beginners, but I can taste the potential. In 10 years time this vintage is going to taste great.

BORDEAUX 1995 REVISIT
Hosted a dinner with top quality Bordeaux 95 to see how it has evolved 20 years on. Overall it looks like it's a St Emilion vintage, as the top 3 goes to 1. Angelus 2. Figeac 3. Haut Brion. But my #1 favorite was Pichon Baron.
Wines served blind. When I draw Mouton Rothschild 95 glass close to my nose, immediately it releases an extremely fruity nose, best nose of the night! Like a very well perfumed lady who stroll pass you and open up fragrantly; sweet, full and of exciting flavour!

The wine has beautiful depth of colour, almost black with a blueish tint. The nose is complex, with notes of blackberry and redcurrant and a touch of smoke, revealing still discreet oak. The attack is full and generous, while the tannins elegantly enfold flavours of liquorice, mocha and vanilla. The finish is long and flavoursome, full of freshness and fruit, set off by delicious touches of toast. A vintage as elegant as it is promising. One of the most evolving Moutons I had.
