1996 Chateau Gloria Saint Julien Cru Bourgeois
I decanted this bottle for 3 hours as 1996 is a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon vintage, and this wine is made up of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon. I swear by this estate, as in the past I have drank some superb wines from this estate (1982, 1987, 1990), plus the vineyard are surrounded by very reputable classified growth producers like Beychevelle, Leoville Poyferre, Gruaud Larose … etc. A whiff and I swear by it as a Pauillac (rather than Saint Julien) wine, with elegant smoke, cigar box and a faint note of coffee beans. A sip and I was ultra satisfied, superb length and complexity, I particularly liked the latte alike taste of creamy notes. This wine reminded me so much of Carraudes de Lafite, the second wine of Lafite Rothschild. I suspect the quality is really not far away, otherwise I would not dare to rate it at . I wish I can prove my point and drink this bottle right next to Carraudes de Lafite to have a comparison. I’m rather confident of my Bordeaux palate.
