1996 Haut Batailley Pauillac
TYPICAL PAUILLAC
From the nose to the palate, this vintage possessed a classic Pauillac style. 20 years on, was the wine ready?
Pencil lead shaving, cedar wood, dark fruits... Smelled like a Pontet Canet or Lynch Bages. Surprisingly elegant and friendly on the palate, decent complexity and length, loads of dark cherries, was still tannic and dry.
So was it ready? If you go with food it'll be ok. Otherwise I'd prefer to age it for another 10 years to have the tannins better integrated.
