1999 Domaine Armand Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques
GRAND CRU QUALITY
Served blind, a sip and I almost swear that this has to be a superb Grand Cru quality wine. Coming from one of the greatest burgundy vintage, the quality was beyond words!
Nose of sweet, violet, black cherries, earth and soil. Palate was even more extreme, most importantly, the balance of fruits and acidity was first class. Very chewy fruits in nature, very pure, head spinning elegance, with heart touching dry roses and dark cherries, the finesse was total thumbs up. Exceptional wine!

VERTICAL ROUSSEAU CLOS ST JACQUES
We finally managed to arrange for a vertical tasting of Armand Rousseau Clos St Jacques with vintages of 62, 93, 96, 99, 01, 02, 04, 08 present. Takeaway was that Rousseau CsJ is extremely consistent throughout vintages. Consensus vote was 96 as #1, 93 as #2 and 01 as #3. I only ranked this #5 tonight even though I guessed the vintage correctly. Somehow I was torn between the 99 & 04, perhaps 04 was more ready. This one has extremely great balance, highly acidic.
