1999 Pichon Baron Pauillac
I had this bottle about 10 years ago, my memory told me that it was really sour then. A decade later, last night’s bottle had not even a trace of sourness. So I was really puzzled what could have caused the difference? I can’t answer this question, except to think that it’s probably a bottle variation. Nose was full of ripe fruits. Palate was the same, very ripe fruits, hardly a trace of tannins (note: I decanted it for 2 hours as I thought 20 years old bottle was too young for a Bordeaux). Slightly disappointed that there’s no trace of a chauvinistic Pichon Baron character, although it was of very good length finishing to wrap up my evening.
